With all the options for sending messages now-a-days there's no reason not to update. Hard for fans to care about a league when the league doesn't seem to care about it's fans.

anyone ever think of calling the arena and asking what the score is??

is it really anyone's responsibility to post scores ongoing??  i think team management might be more interested in watching the game then posting on a web site.  yes it would be nice for fans to know the score, but instead of complaining, call the arena and post it yourself!

but then what would there be to complain about eh k richards?

Folks, normally we with the Shield are able to do Live Updates to the GMHL website.
In fact we have done so for every game this season. Last night was an exception, as we unfortunately ran into some challenges with using the Internet connection at the Bracebridge Arena office. Therefore, the online gamesheet was posted after the game and was up to be viewed before 12:30 AM.

We believe we have ironed out the issues we had and we should be able to post live updates for next Tuesday's game #4 in Bracebridge

As for people not messaging the results, I do know that some people at the arena were noticing they were having a hard time getting a good signal on their phones last night, so that might explain why no updates were coming from people at the game.

Below is a direct quote taken from ADMIN's post on April 18, 2009

"First of all, when I say there are lots of changes for next year, I really mean lots of changes.

I can't tell you too much at this point, but one thing I can tell you, rest assured, live scoring and/or uploaded scoresheets immediately following the game will be mandatory!

You know, it's always been frustrating, to be honest, listening/reading the criticism of the league executive (ie. Bob, Ken, Dan, and myself) about statistics, updates, website, etc.

The league currently has in place rules for fines in the event of teams that aren't prompt in submitting gamesheets, for example, but Bob and Ken have been too lenient in enforcing them.  They've been too nice!!!!!!!!!!!"

WHAT DOES MANDATORY MEAN?

HOW MANY FINES HAVE BEEN LEVIED?

SOMETHINGS NEVER CHANGED

I think I'll throw a couple of cents into the mix here.  I will side with K.Richards on this one, though we need to allow some leniency for the Shield, who happen to be one of the teams in our league that has consistently done a great job on the net all year.

Most teams have done a decent job at reporting this year, either live or immediately following their games - and some haven't.

As for last night, the Shield were in a different rink and couldn't get the net sorted out.  That being said, it certainly would have been a good idea to react to the problem and have someone make some calls to someone else with the ability to post it here on the Forum.

Remember, until last year when the new league site was introduced 2/3's of the way into the season, this Forum was the way to get instant information, and was used accordingly.

There are other teams who struggle with internet connectivity that should also try to make use of this site in the same way.  If you don't have the connection, have someone making update calls to someone else who can post it here.

We live in an age of instant gratification, especially when it comes to sports, and we need to make the effort to inform our interested families and fans by every means possible when  there is an issue with our online scoring.

I'm fortunate in Thornhill to have a pretty solid connection, which is simple enough.  But because of my involvement having a large hand in the promotion and going-on of our league on the net since the beginning 4 years, I'm sensitive to the urgency some people put on getting updated information.  I made sure my scorekeepers updated the time of the period almost every whistle to better inform viewers of the status of our home games.

I'm not saying that to toot my own horn, only to illustrate my point that some of our clubs need to be more sensitive to our fans in this regard, and encourage them to at least make alternate plans if they can't score online.

We're heading into year 5 next season.  I would have thought we'd have some of this stuff sorted out by now.  It's better every year, but we have a ways to go.

While we are on the subject of posting results, still no results for the King/Shield game almost 2 weeks ago.  Boyz need correct stats when seeking to further their opportunities, come on, someone get on board and find a copy of this sheet and get it posted.  Ray, think you have done an excellent job all year, thank you.

FYI  I have called arenas to get results however some of them have the phones in the office with an answering machine and I don't think they are going to run into the office to check messages after a game. For those of you who don't mind answering my call it is very much appreciated.  Ryan most times will call when able.

Susan, thanks for your support. Mike Field has been a big help to me this year with the live updating and the announcing, and has done an excellent job as well.

As for the King/Shield stats from Feb 27, Gord has spoken to Marshall, who has agreed to input the gamesheet data into the system. Gord  faxed the sheet to Marshall this afternoon, so this should be taken care of in the next short while.
